Haynes said this isn’t giving in as much as moving on and getting ready for the next generation of concertgoers, who engage with social media 24/7. “There’s an inevitability to evolving cultural norms. We’re recognizing it early.”

no, how about the next generation who will never be able to appreciate live art the way people used to.

this infuriates me.

I literally just saw this on Facebook and was appalled. Will someone please forward this to Patti LuPone?

PEOPLE WHO ENGAGE IN SOCIAL MEDIA 24/7 HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. Don’t let them change you, theatre!!!!!!

If you can’t stay off your phone for a 2 hours performance please do me and the rest of the audience a favor and stay the fuck home.

As someone who works in live theatre, this is complete bullshit. It breaks the fourth wall, but the opposite way. It brings you out of the experience. Turn off your damned cell phone if you are in the theatre. Disrespectful of the actors, of the director, of the tech crew, and everyone who worked their asses off to make a production for YOU to watch.
